Sustainable--is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet and is even considered a weed in many places!

Eco Friendly to grow-- doesn't require pesticides or fertilizers, absorbs more green house gases and releases more oxygen than trees!

Hypo-allergenic

Breathable

Anti-bacterial and Anti-fungal

Dear Customer,

As spring slowly creeps up, it's time to start thinking about warm weather knits, but that doesn't mean that you have to abandon wool altogether. For warmer weather, we love a fiber blend that combines wool with a cool fiber like bamboo, spun up into a soft, fingering weight yarn. Add just a bit of nyon, and this wonderful combination gives you the perfect yarn for spring socks, light weight shawls, airy scarves and so much more! That's why The Yarn Spotlight for March is on Sushi Socks.

Yarn PropertiesSushi Socks

Sushi Socks is a very "squooshy" yarn; there are approximately the same number of yards in a 100g skein as other fingering/heavy fingering weight yarns, but it looks a lot thicker in the skein. That is because when it doesn't have tension on it, it fluffs up! But as soon as you begin knitting with it, it compresses and knits up to the same gauge as any other sock yarn on size 1-2 needles. But, if you knit it on larger needles at a looser gauge it will fluff up more than your average sock yarn, giving Sushi Socks a versitility that you won't find in most yarns!

Color Quality
Because of the bamboo content, this yarn tends to dye up in softer, slightly more muted shades than our 100% superwash wool yarns. You can see examples of many of our colorways on Sushi Socks here, but, as with all of our yarns, it is available in any color listed on the website.

Wash & Care Instructions
You can machine wash and dry projects made with this yarn, but we always suggest hand washing and air drying any hand knit item.

Pattern Recommendations

Sushi Sock is a very squooshy, bouncy yarn, so we suggest patterns where stitch definition is not of primary importance. Because it is so soft and easy to care for, its perfect for baby items and anything worn directly against your skin, like scarves or socks.

Socks:
Twisted: Sushi sock will "plump up" the simple
Bombadilcables in this sock

Twilled Rib
This classic cabled pattern looks good in semi-solids or in a Gradiance colorway!

Bombadil:
Inspired by a character from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, this colorful sock is simple enough for new sock knitters or as a quick spring sock for more experienced knitters!

Shawls and Wraps:
Spring Leaves
Almost all of our shawl and wrap patterns can be made with Sushi Socks. The resulting wrap will be soft against your skin, perfect for wrapping up with on a cool spring evening or draping over bare shoulders at chilly restaurants or the neighborhood barbecue (what, you don't wear hand knit wraps to barbecues? why not?)

Sincerely,

Your Unique Sheep Dyers,
Laura & Kelly
